Firm Culture

Smith Hurst is intent on being a community of colleagues who enjoy practicing law together and helping clients achieve their business and planning objectives while anticipating and resolving potential problems before they materialize. Our clients benefit from the Smith Hurst culture – and our attorneys and staff do as well. We are a firm that knows who we are and where we are going.

We believe in a firm culture that fosters respect and support for all of our attorneys. Each attorney is given substantial responsibility and works closely with clients and partners. Cutting edge support and technology and a long-term commitment to professional development are hallmarks of our firm. Given the fact that the areas of law in which we focus our practice are not based upon repetitive, standardized transactions and matters, we expect our attorneys to be complete, well-rounded individuals, who also have advanced acumen, education and experience in business, tax, and the related issues and are driven for excellence. Each of our lawyers has a certain depth of knowledge in specific practice areas which makes each lawyer an integral member of our firm in his or her own right. We endeavor to obtain, hone and maintain our legal and professional skills, which results in a collegial and intellectually-charged atmosphere of excellence in the practice of law from which our clients directly benefit.

We do not believe in, or tolerate, friendly fire, competition among firm members or “one-up-manship” within our firm. As a result, a true team spirit prevails to build upon a “Best of Class” law firm culture and delivery of service.

We find that in order to be the best lawyers for our clients, our attorneys need to be well-rounded individuals. We believe in supporting our community and encourage our attorneys to provide pro bono legal services, serve on boards and volunteer with community organizations and spend time enriching their lives outside of the office.
